JEWELLERY CARE
Firstly, you may be wondering - but why has my jewellery discoloured?
It is common for sterling silver to tarnish, this is oxidation and it's not a sign of poor quality, it is discolouration which develops over time. A soft tarnish film, is a surface reaction when metal comes into contact with oxygen, air pollution, moisture, and natural oils from our skin. Every-day exposure to perfume, lotions and sweat will speed up this process. The good news is, tarnish sits on the surface and can be cleaned away. Regular gentle cleaning and thoughtful storage - by keeping your jewellery in low-humidity levels, lined jewellery boxes, or in the soft pouch it was lovingly delivered in - this will preserve it radiant lustre.
Keep it simple! The best way to care for your jewellery is the old-fashioned way, with soap and water.
Don't go and spend money on cleaning kits, everything you need is probably already in your kitchen. You do not want to use abrasive cleaning solutions on sterling silver or gold-filled jewellery.
Yes, it really is that easy - warm soapy water and a polishing cloth, and if that doesn't work, then take it to a professional.
Our simple step-by-step process:
-
Add a few drops of mild, dishwashing liquid to warm water, in a dish or bowl.
-
Immerse the jewellery completely and leave soaking (if heavy tarnishing), or use a soft toothbrush or cotton swab to gently wipe the tarnished part with the soapy liquid.
-
Dry your jewellery using a soft cotton cloth or let it air dry completely on a towel, even if it takes overnight.
-
Once dry, you can polish your jewellery with a soft cotton cloth or a jewellery polishing cloth to restore its lustre and shine.
